Dr. Sian Proctor
An explorer connecting science, art, and inspiration.
Dr. Sian “Leo” Proctor is an astronaut, artist, poet, educator, and futurist who has dedicated her life to exploring the connection between our planet, the universe, and the human imagination. After more than 20 years as a geoscience professor, she blended her passion for science, creativity, and exploration into a mission to inspire others to dream bigger and discover what is possible.
Her lifelong pursuit of exploration led her to SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission, the first all-civilian orbital spaceflight, where Dr. Proctor made history as the first African-American woman to pilot a spacecraft and the first woman commercial spaceship pilot. Through Space2Inspire™, she shares her belief that exploration is not only about reaching new worlds, but about discovering the unique space within ourselves and using our creativity, curiosity, and imagination to let our EarthLight™ shine.

Space was always part of the vision, but the path there was not traditional. Through creativity, storytelling, and her original poem Space2Inspire™, Dr. Proctor transformed a lifelong dream into a mission centered on imagination, connection, and possibility.
What began as a personal motto became the foundation of a movement. From creating art and sharing her message on Earth to seeing our planet from orbit aboard Inspiration4, Space2Inspire™ represents the belief that exploration is not only about discovering new worlds, but also discovering what we each have the power to create.

Let’s stop sucking out the air of our humanity
We have a moment to seize the light
Earth from space both day and night
We have J for justice to ignite the bold
We have E for equity to cut past the old
We have D for diversity to end the fight
We have I for inclusion to try to make it right
A J.E.D.I. space to rally behind
A universal force so big it binds
Inspiration to change the world
