As a member of the 2021 all-civilian Inspiration4 mission and the first female commercial spaceship pilot, Dr. Sian Proctor experienced the Overview Effect—the profound cognitive shift many astronauts describe after seeing Earth from space.
In Earthlight, she recalls being "bathed in Earthlight" while floating inside the Dragon capsule's cupola. Rather than simply observing Earth's beauty, the experience transformed her understanding of our planet as one interconnected home and humanity's place within the larger universe.
What distinguishes Earthlight is Dr. Proctor's ability to merge scientific insight with artistic expression. Her original artwork and poetry offer a deeply personal interpretation of the emotional and psychological impact of viewing Earth from orbit.
